Real-World Evidence on Medical Cannabis in Pediatrics: The CAN-RWE Study
Researchers are looking to explore the long-term safety and benefit of medical cannabis by children under the age of 18 years.
CAN-RWE will follow up to 500 Canadian children with medical cannabis authorizations, but will not provide cannabis products or advice, this is known as an “observational” study. The person who authorized medical cannabis will continue to follow your child and provide care.
Who can participate?
Parents/caregivers of pediatric medical cannabis patients:
between the ages of 3 to 17 years old
with a medical cannabis authorization from a healthcare provider
using medical cannabis for pain, sleep, mood, behaviour, seizures, treatment of or to manage symptoms related to cancer
have access to email to receive questionnaires
What is the study process?
Caregivers and children watch video and complete an online screening form at www.medcannkids.ca.
If eligible, consent/assent is given to participate.
Caregivers complete enrollment medical assessment questionnaire.
Caregivers complete online questionnaires sent by email at: 3, 6, 12, 18 weeks, as well as 6, 12, 18 and 24 months.
Your participation will help researchers understand the safety and benefits of medical cannabis to advance science and improve health outcomes.
You will receive an honorarium for your time.
The C4T research team includes university researchers, doctors, parents, youth, nurses and pharmacists that study medical cannabis in pediatrics.
This study is funded by the Canadian Institutes for Health Research adn the Canadian Cancer Society.
